  1. Hey, I've been using CAT 7.4 for a long time now. I don't know what has gone wrong. A single CRISM cube is taking approx 10 mins to build GLT file ( see screenshot) while projecting, which earlier used to take seconds. I have ENVI 5.6 installed on my i9 processor PC with 64 GB RAM. So, I am sure it's not about hardware. Please, anyone, help as I have a plethora of CRISM cubes to process. Thanks in anticipation!

    Hello CRISM Team! I have been using CRISM data for around 2 years and I appreciate the team for providing useful workshops and TRR-V3 data. I am wondering no new workshops have came up for using CRISM data. Recently, I have processed MSP and HSP images (TRDR) of Hellas Planitia region. In HSP dataset, I am getting a lot of bad bands. Though ATP and PHT corrections ignore some bad bands, but after applying these corrections, hsp0002d9a3 is getting worse (Display 2 in screenshot) as there might be more bad bands.     Hi guys, I am using the CAT tool (latest version, 4/8/20) to map project crism data, I am not getting it right, when I overlay the projected data on a CTX image they do not quite fit. When projecting the crism tr3 image using CAT I get error message shown in the first picture.   5. I see that people are able to use Envi for CRISM analysis but I would prefer to use ERDAS as this is what my course has provided. The CRISM data appears to download as .img files and when I view these in ERDAS it says there are no bands in the information. Other systems, such as Jmars or PlanetServer don't meet my needs as I need to crop and buffer the data later in ArcGIS. When I search the problem "analysing CRISM data" the search brings me back to these systems. Can anyone give me advice on CRISM in ERDAS or point me in the direction of materials?

    While using CAT toolkit, we go for cleaning (destriping and despiking for IR, and destriping for VNIR) the data. In Data Filtering, there are two alternatives: 1. CIRRUS>Clean spectral cube 2. MRO CRISM Remove Stripes I see generally, CIRRUS method is preferred. What is the science behind cleaning by two methods. And which method should be optimum for me? What if, I do not go for data filtering and simply georeference the image after photometric and atmospheric corrections? Thanks in advance.

  8. I'm searching for software to convert PDS4 .xml/.img from of the Mars 2020 cameras to 16 bit/channel PNG, TIFF or other lossless formatted files. So far couldn't find any which runs on current macOS: NASAView https://pds.nasa.gov/tools/about/pds3-tools/nasa-view.shtml is not available for current macOS, the Java-based transform only writes 8 bit (https://github.com/NASA-PDS/transform/issues/15), the Python PDS4viewer https://pypi.org/project/pds4-tools/ only writes 8bit as well and my years old PDS plugin for GIMP doesn't work on recent versions.   11. Hello, How to correctly open and overlay map-projected HiRISE and CRISM products? I know that they both should have the same projection (with different pixel size/map scale/spatial resolution). But, unexpectedly they opened from the first pixel's location of the first opened raster layer and not accordingly and independently by the map coordinates of each rasters. See attached.   12. Hello, How exactly is each summary product converted to an 8-bit RGB channel component of the browsing product? Is there a code procedure in CAT to use with IDL? Are the values in the summary product at a normalized intensity from 0 to 1? If so then is it only left to convert the values to a range [0, 255]? Thanks, Nathan

  13. Hello, What do I need to define a new mineral Type Locality? How do I search for new minerals that have not yet been defined with a type locality? I thought of calculating the RGB color of a target mineral lab reference spectrum, with related summary products and then looking for pixels in the related Browse Product scene that have a similar color. Is it a good way? If yes, how do I do the band math on a spectrum instead of on an image? And is there a way to do this with the codes from the directory ‘CAT_ENVI\save_add\CAT_programs\Additions\SummaryParams2014’ ? Thanks, Nathan

Why is it so? A: Radiance has units of W m**-2 sr**-1 and does not include a frequency term,units of spectral radiance include frequency. Q: How are the BT values calculated from radiance? Are there any preprocessing steps involved in this calculation? Simple calculation using the Planck's function (for the central wavelength) does not match the BT values given in the file.   15. I want to georeference an M3 image (obtained via PDS) in ENVI. I was following "Assigning Map Information to PDS Images in ENVI", posted by Dr June Wang. I was able to perform most of the steps. Yet when the process is complete, it seems that the georeferencing is not correct. I have attached a couple of screenshots from the M3 image I was working with. To check the accuracy of georeferencing, I cross-checked the location from Google Moon and found that there are a lot of discrepancies between the 'georeferenced' M3 image and Google Moon.     Hello, I am a PhD scholar exploring water associated morphology and mineralogy of the Martian surface. While analysing CRISM dataset for secondary minerals in my study area, I have observed a narrow band near 1.2 micron. This feature was observed in at least 3 datasets. I carried out literature survey for clarification regarding this feature. Some studies have attributed this an artifact while others propose it to be a result of (i) fe substitution in plagioclase feldspar (ii) fe-rich/coarse grained olivine (iii) weathering of impact glasses etc. (based on band centre and depth). Can anyone give pointers regarding its classification. Thank you.

  18. Hello There, I'm trying to merge the S (VNIR) and L (IR) into one single cube as discussed in the topic "Complete Near-infrared Spectrum" in the forum.     Hello Explorers, I want to make sure whether the default bad bands algorithm is already applied to TRR3 datasets or not. I noticed that in your useful doc "CRISM Data Users' Workshop Nili Fossae Data Processing Walkthrough". The example of (page 10) shows that before the S (VNIR) TRR2 cube being converted to CAT format, some bad bands have been detected at 0.4um and 0.7um as well while TRR3 version not, in this version it seems like the mentioned algorithm is already applied.     Hello There, Should I do "Radiance to IoF" before I convert the PDS CRISM data to CAT? I'm asking this question because I want to analyze the spectral profile of a mineral on Ritchey crater using CRISM L cube data, but I noticed the Y axis missed "I/F" as highilighted in your docs. The graph axes are the following: -> X axis: Data Value -> Y axis: Wavelength (um) Do I really need to apply "Radiance to IoF" first? is this like a "Radiometric Correction" to PDS CRISM data? I used to do this, but an error has occurred said: "The input data is not a radiance" Your help is much appreciated.

  22. HI, Wondering if the Viking Orbiter image data (VISAB) is missing or not loading on the Mars map explorer? It appears that some quadrants are being loaded on the map for the selected High Resolution Mosaicked layer, but the images themselves are not appearing, only the teal transparency.   23. Hello, I am a fourth year Geology student, and for my research project I am doing a comparison of Martian and Terran Alluvial Fans. I'd like to use CRISM data to display the mineralogy of fans in craters. However, the way I was planning on doing this was using ArcMap to show intensity of pixels in bands. I'm not sure if this is a valid methodology and I'd appreciate any advice on how to go about displaying mineralogy. I understand that analysis can be done using ENVI, but I've not had any experience with this. I would also say I'm just about competent in using ArcMap. Thank you!
