Questions and comments related to locating, accessing, and using PDS Geo data

  1. Started by Sarah020,

Hello, I'm new to using the PDS node and I am struggling to open the .img files that I have downloaded. I'm able to view the .jp2 images associated with each data set, but not the .img files. I know that they are binary data files but I don't know how to access the data within them. Is there any way of getting them into an ASCII or other numerical based format, eg an x,y,(other variable) format? I'm hoping to analyse the data on a Linux system, so any advice tailored to Linux would be appreciated! Thank you very much, Sarah

  2. Is there a table I could download that gives the MER position in local coordinates by either site number or Sol day? This information is implicitly available in the traverse maps of the Mosaic tool in the form of meters East and North of the landing site. I would like to be able to access this information in tabular form. Thanks, Bill

  3. Started by EBonacker,

Hello, I would like to compare the data displayed in the LRO LOLA images (e.g. LDEM_80S_20M) to some other data and therefore I would like to use the same color scale. Can I download the color scale used in the LRO LOLA images anywhere on this site? Maybe in a format I'll be able to use in MATLAB? Regards, EBonacker

  4. Hello, I'm new to using the MER Pancam products, and having trouble with the Spirit Sol 751 XYZ (and related) derived products. Loading into either MATLAB or ISIS, the XYL and related products seem to consiste almost entirely of zeros. Other products from Sprit Sol 751 (e.g. Pancam RSN) load fine and look sensible. Should I take this to mean that no useful range information was acquired that sol, or is there a workaround for getting range and XYZ information? Thanks, - Edwin

  5. Started by Susie Slavney,

Mars Exploration Rover Release 28 is now available on the PDS Geosciences Node web site. It includes data acquired on sols 2341 through 2430 by the Opportunity rover. There are no data from Spirit for this release. New data are included for APXS (raw and derived), Atmospheric Opacity, Mössbauer (raw only), Microscopic Imager (raw and derived), Pancam (raw and derived), and the Rover Motion Counter. No Mini-TES or RAT data are included in this release.
