Below I have included a Python 3.6 sample script for downloading files from the PDS Geosciences Node. The sample includes a configuration for downloading data files from both a PDS Geosciences Node archive and files from an Orbital Data Explorer (ODE) cart request. The script supports multiple levels of sub directories, as well. The script includes variables that should be set by the user for his or her environment. The example PDS data set and ODE cart request both exist, and they are available for test executions of the script. Python 3.6 is required for the script to function. This script is also available for download in the downloads section of the forum. # PDSGe…

Dear all, We now are applying the SHARAD EDR data, in order to test our compression coding technique. Whether we can directly apply the EDR data for achieving the compression coding process or not? Can you tell me what is the compression coding standard technique applied in the SHARAD or MARSIS mission? Thanks for your consideration, we are looking forward to receiving answers from you. Best Regards, Andy

Hello, Can you point me to where I can find documentation regarding what the value of MISSING_CONSTANT represents? I have checked the RDR SIS, and didn't see anything. It's likely I'm overlooking something. For example, the LDRM_40N_1000M.IMG file shows a MISSING_CONSTANT value of -32768. Is this value meant to fix the OFFSET value? Thank you.

Hello My name is Vidyesh Sathe, I am actually working on my Dissertation in Planetary Geology, I am pretty new to Crism Data Set and Analysis of Crism Data. I am using Data set which is frt0001176e_07_if164ds_trr3.img and frt0001176e_07_if164l_trr3.img, i am using both VNIR And IR data. sir I followed the process given in CRISM Demonstration: Data Access, Processing, and Analysis - 3rd Planetary Data Workshop 2012, After pre-processing given in presentation, I wanted to Combine both VNIR and IR data. so i followed standard Envi process which is, Envi-Basic Tool-Layer stacking I imported both map-projected images of VNIR(S) and IR(L). But as the result…

Hi, I've come across many workshop presentation papers and research papers in which the processing of CRISM images include 'Spectral Smile Removal' and the entire sequence of Empirical Processing. 1. When we download the TRR3 data, is it already taken care of? Or do we have to follow a certain algorithm to manually apply it? Can you please suggest me how to do it? It is not mentioned in any workshop papers. 2. If we have to manually perform this task, do we have to do it via IDL/MATLAB programming or is it possible to do so in a GUI software (viz CAT, ENVI)? Thank You! Sourabh Shubham Department Of Geology and Geophysics IIT Kharag…

Hi dear community, I'm working primarly with MTRDR products for mineral identification using ENVI 5.3 + IDL with CAT 7.4 coupled and i have some questions: 1.- Why when i visualize the spectral profile for some scene in any pixel the profile shape is essentially the same only with changes on the data value?. Does that mean there's only one dominant phase per scene?. Even when i use the Browse Products and can distinguish more than one phase (colors) the profile for the default image (true color) keeps its form. I don't know if this is a coincidence for the scenes that i've analyzed or there is something wrong on the procedure that i'm following. 2.- It is…

Hello, I am currently working with the CRISM Data in Matlab and when I load it, the data is always saved in a rectangular matrix. But since I need the original shape, I need to transform the cube data into it's original form. I have two screenshots how it should look like. I have also been able to read out the DDR file, but I can't find anything on the web on how to use that data. I would appreciate it if someone could help me further regarding this.

Answers from the Diviner science team to questions from a Diviner user. Q: The radiance unit mentioned in the lbl file is W m**-2 sr**-1, the term corresponding to frequency is missing. Why is it so? A: Radiance has units of W m**-2 sr**-1 and does not include a frequency term, units of spectral radiance include frequency. Q: How are the BT values calculated from radiance? Are there any preprocessing steps involved in this calculation? Simple calculation using the Planck's function (for the central wavelength) does not match the BT values given in the file. A: The spectral radiance is integrated across the spectral passbands. The Diviner channel spectra…

Hello, For my thesis completion: I’m trying to calculate the color of a lab reference mineral with the summary parameters formulations as Viviano et al. (2014) did in this figure (9): For that, I used the relevant summary parameters formulations described in Viviano et al. (2014), table 2, and section 4. But first, to check that my calculations are correctly implemented (using Matlab), I tried to calculate them on an IF_TER cube to reproduce the same browse product as I would get if I opened it by the pre-calculated summary parameters bands in the SU_TER cube (as was shown originally in the data processing pipeline by Seelos et al. 2011)…

Hello, I am currently trying to find examples of the surface temperature on Mars, as taken by the Climate Sounder on the MRO, for the 3rd of August 2015. However, I'm very new at working with this data set and it is proving tricky. Firstly, there are a range of columns which mention "temp" in their title, however no amount of internet searching will tell me which one relates to actual ambient temperatures. Secondly, there should be some mention of Channels (aka Channel A. being measurements closest to the ground) but there isn't, so I'm not sure how to work out which data entries are from the surface. Thirdly, of all the temperature-related columns, none of them ha…

I hope this is the appropriate subforum to ask this question. The LRO pages at NASA led me to http://ode.rsl.wustl.edu/moon/index.aspx to get LRO imagery data. I'm looking to use images of craters from the LRO data there, with labels, at Wikipedia to fix some currently incorrect imagery and descriptions. I intend to get the zoom level and framing I want and then do screengrabs with Snipping Tool. My issue is that the only copyright information I've been able to locate on the wustl.edu site is a link that says most imagery emanating from the JPL website is fair to use. Does data from here follow the same - am I free to repost screencaps to Wikipedia? And is ther…

Hi, I am getting a warning message after the georeferencing of CRISM data. It says that "MRO Custom datum D_Mars_2000_1AU_IAG_Custum_Sphere_lat00 not available. Projection may not match MTRDR. After georeferencing, when I check its details, it appears that DATAM is missing. Kindly help me to tackle this problem? Thanks,

Hello Experts, I would like to learn how to calculate some indices to detect Gypsum and other minerals on Ritchey crater, I decided to start first with the formulations included in "CRISM Data Product Software Interface Specification" (as seen below) to seek out gypsum. However, I didn't clearly understand the syntax of the mentioned formulations, I mean (R, a, b ... etc), I found these formulations more detailed compared to the indices I've calculated before such as NDVI, EVI, SAVI ... (using Landsat8, Spot imageries). Would you please explain to me the syntax of these formulations and what do I need to get started with before diving into this process? …

Good morning I was looknig at the gravitational data provided in JGMRO_110C_SHA.TAB and I could not understand how to use the uncertainties provided. I see that for example the third column of the first line provides a value of 1.9E-05 and the description of this number is "For a gravity field model the uncertainty in the gravitational constant GM in kilometers cubed per seconds squared for the planet" I wanted to generate a "perturbed" gravity field based on this uncertainty. How would you recommend to do it? Shall I assume a uniform distribution and compute the Real_GM = Nominal_GM + uniform(-1,1)*uncertainty Or do you recomend using a gaussian …

Hi there, I am a PhD student at ICL, and am looking to work with CRISM TRDR images, which will need map projecting. I don't (currently) have access to a IDL licence for ENVI, so I don't think I can install and run the CAT toolkit, and am wondering if it is possible to map project the TRDR images via a different piece of GIS software? I have also tried installing JCAT, which unfortunately does not seem to open when run. Any help would be much appreciated, Best, Rob Platt
