  3. Hi Ralph: I would be glad to help you through CRISM processing, both as a CRISM Team Member and PDS Geosciences Node Manager. First what version of ENVI/IDL are you using? I suggest not using Classic but rather the new 5 series interface. I use version 5.5.3. Once we are set with ENVI then I can tutor you through the steps using a Zoom session, which I will record so you can play it back as needed. Waiting to hear from you. Ray Arvidson

As far as I understood I need to 1) Convert PDS to CAT ( is it needed ? ) before loading image into Envi 1) ATM correction ( for VNIR images only photometric correction) 2) CIRRUS ( despike + destripe) 3) MRO CRISM remove stripes 4) Flatten summary products ( what does it do ? is it necessary ? ) 5) Apply crism bad band list Are the above steps correct/enough/in the correct order , and is there a script ( IDL whatever ) to process thos images as a batch task ? I am doing a geological map of the McLaughlin crater, using crism's "rock.sli" spectral library to map the geological units. Can this library be used with VNIR data, or only with IR data ?   7. Hi, Jimmy. You should be able to delete individual measurements and other elements by clicking on the corresponding trash can icon in the list of elements to the left of the image. See the image below for an example. Note that deleting one annotation may delete others as well. For example, if you delete a location that is the endpoint of a distance measurement, the endpoint locations and the distance measurement all will be deleted. You will receive a warning in such cases asking you to confirm the delete. Please let us know if you still feel that the tool isn't working the way you expect. I am glad that you find the measurement tools useful. You are welcome to make suggestions for tool enhancements.
  8. Tom or other... The ability to delete specific measurements has recently disappeared. Only the 'Delete All Measurements' is currently available. Perhaps this is an oversight. Just wanted to let you know as that is a valuable option to lose. Thanks Jimmy R

  11. We have released a new version of our MakeLabels tool. The new 6.2 version includes additional features to help with the creation of PDS labels. The program and documentation can be found on the PDS Geosciences Node's MakeLabels page. Version 6.2 updates include: The output label destination directory is created, if it does not already exist and the user has appropriate permissions. Any template label tags that are not replaced (due to syntax errors or missing columns in the spreadsheet) are listed in the post-processing summary report. The MakeLabel's GUI interface now has a sizeable report window. The report summary has been moved to the end of the processing output report. The option to upper or lower case fields from the source spreadsheet has been added to the template tags. A new template tag allows a single line to be hidden if it's corresponding field is empty in the spreadsheet. (example: <name><!-- |specimen_id| OR HIDE-THIS-LINE --></name>) Show if and hide if template tags no longer need to be left aligned in the template. These tags can be indented and spaced with the surrounding XML.

  13. We are pleased to announce the release of the new PDS Geosciences Node Spectral Library website. The PDS Geosciences Node Spectral Library is a database of laboratory spectra submitted by various data providers. It currently includes spectra from the Reflectance Experiment Laboratory (RELAB) at Brown University. Additional data sets will be added to the website in the coming months. The website allows users to search the catalog of specimen and measurements using a facet search. Results can be viewed in quick view summary or full detail pages. Measurement data can be downloaded individually or through a cart system.
  14. Hi Christy, I just tried the Windows version of the software on my Windows 10 machine. It would not run properly, either. I think we can assume the software has not kept up with the latest operating systems. I do have a couple of alternative options. I have confirmed that the files can be viewed with the PDS4 viewer: https://sbnwiki.astro.umd.edu/wiki/PDS4_Viewer Using this tool, the data files can be exported as csv, tab delimited, and additional formats. Keep in mind that the archive you mentioned is both PDS3 and PD4 compatible. To use PDS3 tools, use the .lbl label, while PDS4 tools will use the .xml label. The XML label will be needed for the PDS4 Viewer. You could also write a script with IDL, MATLAB, Python, or another programming language to parse the data files. The column specifications are found in the label files. The PDS3 label file refers to format files which are found in the archive's label directory (https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/messenger/mess-e_v_h-grns-3-grs-cdr-v1/messgrs_2001/label/). The product you mentioned refers to https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/messenger/mess-e_v_h-grns-3-grs-cdr-v1/messgrs_2001/label/grs_cal_sh3.fmt. The PDS4 label contains all of the column definitions.   16. Hello, I'm attempting to use the MESSENGER GRS PDS data viewer in order to output GRS data into csv files. The software tool is located at https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/missions/messenger/grs_software.htm. I downloaded the messenger_pds_viewer_v7-macosx.tgz file and tried to run it, but absolutely nothing happens. The app won't launch. I'm using Java version 8, update 251 on a macOS Mojave version 10.14.6. I read through the softinfo.txt file that is included in the downloaded derived GRS data, and it mentions that the MESSENGER PDS viewer installation requires a Mac OS with a Java 1.6 JRE or newer installed. The "updated" PDS viewer software for GRS data was released on March 8, 2013, so I think the MESSENGER GRS PDS data viewer is too outdated to run on my machine. Does anyone know if there has been any further releases? Or if there's any other way to convert the GRS data to properly formatted .csv files? For each day there are 3 files, e.g., grs_cs32013091zzz.xml, grs_cs32013091zzz.tab, and grs_cs32013091zzz.lbl. I really need the shield spectra data from the GRS_CAL_SH product
  17. Hi There, I am one of the developers who maintains the ODE website. I ran the same query in the ODE LOLA RDR Query tool, and I received the same response. I believe it is reasonable. Remember, you are just limiting the output to one day. The tool is not setup very well for global coverage searches, but it can be done for narrow time windows. If you wish to query 2014-2019, I would suggest doing a region of interest. That is more of the objective of the query tool. The limited areas of coverage for 2014 and later is expected. The orbiter was in a different orbit and the instrument issues you mentioned. To see the different in coverage for later years, you can use the ODE map search page to filter LRO LOLA RDR coverage to specific time ranges.   19. Hi all - I've been looking to pull data from the LOLA RDR Query tool and I just want to make sure I'm collecting data correctly. My understanding is that between July 2009 and July 2013, more than 6.5 billion LOLA measurements were collected (https://astrogeology.usgs.gov/search/details/Moon/LRO/LOLA/Lunar_LRO_LOLA_Global_LDEM_118m_Mar2014/cub), while running a LOLA RDR Query search on the full Moon with a minimum UTC time bound of 2014-01-01 returns only 432,978 points. Does this seem correct? Many large regions of the Moon appear to not have had LOLA data collected since 2013. I understand that there have been shifts in the lifecycle of the instrument and how it has been used, I just want to be sure that I am not missing something in my data collection process. Thank you!

We were contacted by a user trying to read SHARAD EDR data with ReadPDS3 for IDL, but that tool does not read the bit fields and three-byte integers in the data product, and as it is a PDS3 tool it is not likely to be developed further. We suggested the following tools for working with SHARAD data. There was a SHARAD/MARSIS workshop at LPSC in 2014. Presentations are on the Geosciences Node’s web site at https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/workshops/sharadmarsis_Mar14.html. There's one by Than Putzig about the CO-SHARPS Processing Boutique, software that reads SHARAD products (not clear if he means EDRs, RDRs, or both) and creates radargrams, among other things. To get the software you have to request it from PSI at https://www.psi.edu/SHARAD. There are links to other software packages on the workshop page, but nothing specifically for reading EDRs. Most people prefer to use the RDRs. We have also posted an IDL script for generating browse images on the SHARAD page (https://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/missions/mro/sharad.htm), as an example of how to read an RDR product. It might be possible to modify the code to read an EDR. Finally, we have some C# code to read the SHARAD EDRs, but the code does not read every field in the *.dat file. If you can let us know which fields you are interested in, we can try to modify the code to see if it works. The user replied, "for now that's fine for us skipping the unread fields. We could read the other data columns by slightly modifying the label/fmts of the SHARAD EDR. In case we would have to actually use those specific fields, I think that we could implement some specific reading routines, but it is some time to spend we don't really have for a non-critical purpose."
